Republican Hypocrites

Kansas Republicans seem to have a hard time keeping to the platform the Republican Party and reconciling the platform and stated beliefs of the party. When shifts are seen in voting patterns, three considerations should be made:

Is there a potential for a governor veto to provide cover for liberal/Rhino Republicans to cast seemingly conservative votes?
Is there a change of personal direction in terms of political career or office?
Is there really a maturation process and commitment to the rule of the Constitution and Individual Rights?

hypocrite:
hypokritēs actor, hypocrite, from hypokrinesthai
Date: 13th century

1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings: Example: Rep Yoder, Republican, KS.

KS Republican Platform: Every innocent human life is sacred. Every human being, born or unborn, has an inalienable right to life which cannot be infringed. We believe life begins at conception. The Kansas Republican Party will lead our nation toward a culture that values life—the life of the elderly and sick, the life of the young, and the life of the unborn.

All unborn children, regardless of ability, have a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. Kansas Republicans, therefore, affirm our support for a Human Life Amendment to the U. S. Constitution (as stated in the Republican National Platform), and we endorse legislation to make clear the Fourteenth Amendment’s protection applies to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and funding organizations which advocate it.

We examine one KS politician who seems typical of many Republicans who claim to be conservative, yet appear to support liberal and statist positions. All material below is from public sources.

Project Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that requires doctors to report on the necessity of each late-term abortion and allows civil action if an abortion is believed to have been performed illegally.

NOTE: THIS IS A SUBSTITUTED BILL, MEANING THE LANGUAGE OF THE ORIGINAL BILL HAS BEEN REPLACED.

Official Synopsis:

House Sub. for SB 218 would revise current law regarding late-term abortions. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) would be required to adopt new forms as well as rules and regulations to collect certain information from physicians who perform abortions and to publish certain data annually.

In short - he was against it before he was for it. What changed? Two things: Assurance the bill would be vetoed and he would run for Congress.

Representative Kevin W. Yoder repeatedly refused to provide any responses to citizens on the issues through the 2008 Political Courage Test when asked to do so by national leaders of the political parties, prominent members of the media, Project Vote Smart President Richard Kimball, and Project Vote Smart staff.
